OXFORD - William J. "Turk" Bradley III, 63, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 at The University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. He was born on December, 22, 1949 in Easton, Md., to William and Elizabeth (Colburn) Bradley, Jr. Turk grew up in Oxford and graduated from Easton High School in 1968 where he was the President of his senior class and a varsity athlete in football, baseball, wrestling, and track. After high school he began a 42 year career with the Maryland State Highway Administration. He held numerous positions as a project engineer and was responsible for the construction of the current Miles River Bridge, the Eastern Neck Island Bridge, the Chester River Bridge, the Maryland 291 Interchange, the Connecticut Avenue Interchange Project, and the Peach Blossom Creek Bridge which was dedicated to his father 1998. At the time of his passing, Turk was the Regional Construction Engineer for Districts 1 and 2 with responsibility for overseeing all road construction on the Eastern Shore. Turk married Linda A. Trego in 1970. They recently celebrated their 43rd anniversary together. As a young adult, Turk enjoyed his time as a player, manager, and ultimately Vice President in the Tidewater Softball League. He also loved the friendships and camaraderie developed during his 35 years of completive sailing in many boat classes across the Chesapeake Bay. Undoubtedly, his most cherished sailing memories were the 25 summers he spent aboard the log Canoe "Magic." Turk will also be remembered in the community for the 12 years he spent coaching youth sports. From Little League, Senior League, and American Legion Baseball to Pop Warner and Junior Varsity Football, Turk loved coaching and teaching a generation of young boys the "life" lessons of hard work and commitment that come through sports. Turk was preceded in death by his parents; and youngest son, Michael. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Benjamin (& Darlene) Bradley; his brother, Brent (& Nancy) Bradley; his sister, Selinda (& Paul) Kelly; his grandchildren, Emma and Abigail Bradley; and his nephew, Kameron Kelly. A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2013, at The Church of God, 1009 North Washington Street in Easton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Oxford Volunteer Fire Department, 300 Oxford Rd, Oxford MD 21654. Arrangements are being handled by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton. For online tributes, please visit www.fhnfuneralhome.com.
