NECK DISTRICT - William E. "Bill" Lewis Sr., 75, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore.
He was born in Cambridge on Aug. 30, 1932, to the late John V. Lewis Sr. and Naomi Phillips Lewis.
Mr. Lewis graduated from Cambridge High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On July 27, 1956, he married the former Charlotte A. Gillen.
Mr. Lewis worked as a bricklayer for Allen Tyler and Son for many years and he worked at Sears in Cambridge for a few years. In 1985 he started his own business, Mas-Con, Inc. and also operated his own poultry farm.
Some of his hobbies were wood carving and serving with the Dorchester Ruritan, of which he was a member. He was a member of The Neck District Volunteer Fire Company, American Legion Post 91 and St. John"s Chapel.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte A. Lewis of the Neck District; a daughter, Theresa L. "Terri" Woodward and husband, Chuck of Hebron; three sons, William E. "Bill" Lewis Jr. of the Neck District, David S. Lewis and wife, Carol of the Neck District and Douglas R. Lewis of the Neck District; two grandchildren, Christopher L. Woodward of Salisbury and Emily C. W. Hebel and her husband, Christopher Hebel of Salisbury; two brothers, James F. Lewis and wife, Fran of the Neck District and John V. Lewis Jr. and wife, Shirley of the Neck District; two sisters, Thelma Rock of Baltimore and Betty Jean Brennan of Baltimore as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, at Christ Episcopal Church in Cambridge with the Rev. Walter Reuschling officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester Ruritan Club, P.O. Box 654, Cambridge, MD 21613; Neck District Volunteer Fire Company, 945 Cooks Point Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Edward A.
