March 10, 1926 – December 16, 2014 CRISFIELD - Wiliam A. Witt of Crisfield, died peacefully at the Alice B. Tawes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Crisfield after a long illness. He was 88. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Marie Witt, also of Crisfield. He also leaves his three daughters, Paula Witt of Bulls Gap, Tennessee, and his grandchildren Jesse and Charlotte and step-granddaughter Amber; Lisa Widner of Ashland, Oregon, and granddaughter Rosanna and three step-granddaughters, Crystal, Jayleen and Alisha; and Lore Witt and his granddaughter Ursula of Auburn, California. Mr. Witt is also survived by two step-daughters, Jo Ann Guear of Hamilton, New Jersey, her husband Christopher and their children Matthew and Nicole; and Amy DeVries and her husband John of Palm Coast, Florida. Mr. Witt was born in Uruguay. He came to the United States as a toddler with his parents and three siblings. He is a U.S. citizen and served overseas in the U.S. Army during World War II. He is a graduate of the School of Journalism of Syracuse University. He retired from his post as international advertising manager for Thomas & Betts, formerly Amerace, in 1991. He and his wife Marie moved to Crisfield from New Jersey shortly after their marriage in 1993. Mr. Witt was an experienced sailor. He was a member of the Keyport, New Jersey Yacht Club and later, a member and board member of the Somers Cove Yacht Club in Crisfield. Mr. Witt is deeply missed by his wife and family, by dear old friends in New Jersey and by cherished new ones in Crisfield. Memorial services will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his name can be sent to a favorite charity, to the Residents Activities Fund at Alice B. Tawes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (201 Hall Highway, Crisfield MD 21817) or to the Humane Society of Somerset County (PO Box 493, Princess Anne MD 21853).
