WiHi football coach resigns

Posted

SALISBURY – Wicomico High School’s football head coach, Isaiah Taylor, announced his resignation on Dec. 29. In his fourth season with the Indians, he led the team to a record of 7-4 and the second round of the playoffs.

In a statement published that day, Coach Taylor wrote, “To my Boys – It has been an honor and a privilege to be your coach. Thank you for allowing me to utilize the game of football to teach you the game of life. Always remember to be tough, be relentless, have integrity, value brotherhood and give everything you got.”

While working though seasons and schedules affected by the COVID epidemic, Coach Taylor and the team compiled a record of 23-13. His efforts in guiding the young men did not go unnoticed.

Michelle McGoogan, a member of the WiHi administration, posted online, “Your vision and leadership took them to great places. I’m thankful to you for all you did for the players, school and community. You will be missed, Coach.”

Coach Taylor said he is leaving for another opportunity. He did not specify what it is, though he said, “WiHi will forever remain in my heart.”

Memories of his time with the Indians will remain with others, as well.

Parent Aleishia Gibson wrote, “Coach Isaiah Taylor you will forever be family! You have been a father figure, a coach, a mentor, and a friend the past four years for my son. You have pushed him, laughed with him, encouraged him, cried with him and loved him like family. My appreciation for you being a part of our lives is unmeasurable. You are one of God’s angels that walks the earth! We love you!”
