CAMBRIDGE — Are you looking for locally made articles for holiday giving? The Wednesday Morning Artists of Cambridge are hosting a dazzling show of gift-able items to be held at the Dorchester Center for the Arts. Approximately 35 artists will comprise this year’s sale and provide one-stop shopping for holiday gifting. The show and sale opens on Nov. 8, and runs until Dec. 22. There will be two Second Saturday receptions, one on Nov. 10 and the other on Dec. 8 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dorchester Center for the Arts. “This annual gift extravaganza brings you work that may have taken many hours to create. Some of the art moves, some of the art entertains, some of the art decorates. The beauty and creativity of it all will amaze shoppers,” said WMA spokesperson Nancy Snyder. “What better gift for a loved one than a unique piece of original art that won’t be found in the big box stores and won’t be available online where you can’t appreciate the quality or feel the real thing. Our shoppers won’t have to wait for delivery as they can remove their choices from the tables or the walls on the spot and purchase the items to take them home with them at the receptions and during Dorchester Arts Center business hours. “There are two additional important benefits of shopping at the Gallery of Gifts: first, what you spend stays in our community, and second, your purchase supports the arts center,” Ms. Snyder said. “Many artists spend years studying and practicing their art to the point where they can offer their creations for sale or have it displayed in a gallery. They work at day jobs to further their knowledge, skills, and dreams of success that often comes through participation in arts groups across the country like ours.” Other items available at this special show will include textile and fiber arts, basketry, pottery, soaps, antique buttons, mosaics, books, photography, paintings and a selection of gorgeous jewelry produced by members of WMA and other artists who live in Dorchester and surrounding areas. One of the artists will offer unique jewelry that pays tribute to many important women in history, mostly in the 1800s and 1900s. Included are pieces that feature our own Harriet Tubman. Jeannette Faber of St. Michaels comes to Cambridge for the 8 a.m. WMA meeting twice a month. She says that she enjoys the Cambridge venue and plans to offer her exquisite jewelry at the holiday show. This will be her first time participating in the event. “I really like the venue,” she said. “It gives me the chance to share my work in a new area and to interact and support my fellow WMA members and the local arts center in a good way.” A visit to the Dorchester Center for the Arts might help you find that special gift — something that may be a complete surprise — since the gallery show features so many sorts of artistic expression. In addition, a portion of the proceeds will go to the arts center to support arts programming throughout the year. “The show is always stunning,” Ms. Snyder said. “There is an unbelievable pool of artists who come together to share their beautiful work.” The arts center is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. It is open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For additional hours and information, call 410-228-7782.
