Webster Arlington Stanley

HURLOCK - Webster Arlington Stanley departed this life Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 at UMSMC at Easton. He was 73 years old. He was born on October 21, 1940 in Petersburg, Maryland to the late Sherman and Hilda Jackson Stanley. Webster graduated from Maces Lane High School, Cambridge; Class of 1958. Webster was affectionately known as "Link" to family and friends. Webster was married to late Mary V. Thompson Stanley and they made there home in Hurlock were they were married for 34 years. After high school, Webster worked for the ACME Market Cannery until he was drafted into the Military. He served in the US Army from October 1963 to October 1965; with basic training in the Signal Corp as a lineman at Fort Gordon,GA and did one tour overseas in Germany. Upon returning from the Military he returned to the ACME Market Cannery until it closed. Webster also worked for Bomarko Manufacturing, Kmart Corp and the Dorchester Public Schools as a custodian until his retirement. Webster loved the Lord and was member of Faith Community UMC in East New Market and the former Thompson Chapel UMC until its closing. As a child, Webster was member of Zoar UMC in Petersburg, where he started his love of singing. Webster sang at an early age with the youth choir at the church and continued singing throughout his life unitil his health begain to fail. Webster started quartet singing after returning from the Military in the early 60's. When he became a member of Thompson Chapel he sang with the Young Adults Choir and soon after joined the Silver Lights Male Quartet of the church and remained with the quartet for over 20 years. After the merge with Faith Community UMC, he also sang with the newly named Labala Singers, the Men's Choir, and also the charge New Hope choir, and the church choir. He was requested to sing his signature song "One Day At A Time" on many occasions. He had a beautiful lead and base voice that was enjoyed by all. He held the following positions at the church: trustee, custodian and finance committee. Webster was currently residing, at The House in The Pines in Easton; as his health further declined. He enjoyed farming, hunting and having a garden which he shared with anyone. Link loved spending time with his family, if it was a family gathering or just coming by to check on things, he was right there. He will truly be missed by all. Webster is survived by his step-daughter, Valentina Thompson, Hurlock; five sisters, Mary L. Stanley, Hurlock, Frances Yvonne Brown, Preston, Mary L. Pindell, Annapolis, Brenda Gwynn, Greensboro, N.C., Janice Rouse, Hurlock,; and one brother, William Stanley, Memphis, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Stanley, Memphis, Tenn; three brothers-in-law, Russell Brown, Preston, Freddie R. Thompson and George W. Thompson Sr., Baltimore; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas R. Stanley Sr. Link was the most gentle and quiet person you could know. His smile and laugh was so beautiful that you couldn't help but have your spirit lightened by him. A blessing to his family and friends, he would help anyone in need. He will truly be missed by all!! A viewing will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Hurlock United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, 2013 at Hurlock United Methodist Church, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Petersburg Cemetary.
