OXFORD — Ashley Watkins, flutist, and Denise Nathanson, cellist, will be presenting a concert Aug. 19 at 4 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Oxford. The church is excited to share these incredibly talented musicians.
Ashley was intrigued with musical instruments as a young child, growing up in Cambridge. She quickly progressed to advanced levels performing with the Chesapeake and DC Youth Orchestras and the Peabody Sinfonietta. Leaving the Eastern Shore, she studied and received performance degrees from James Madison University, Va. and The University of Akron, Ohio.
Recently Ashley performed for the 2018 National Day of Prayer Breakfast sponsored by the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives. She was also a guest artist for the 2017 Flute Festival at Howard University, Washington DC.
Joe Cunliffe, a distinguished recording artist and Artistic Ambassador to the U.S., has accepted Ashley into his jazz studio, where she studies today.
Denise Nathanson is a well-known cellist, music educator, needlepoint, and yoga instructor on the East Coast. Presently Denise resides most of the year in Key West, where she is the Music Director for the Key West Community Orchestra and Co-Director for the Southernmost Chamber Music Society.
In December 2016, Denise formed The Key West Duo with violinist Irie Monte. With strong interests in music education and music administration, Ms. Nathanson has been active in developing and performing in outreach and community programs. Ms. Nathanson also served as a Music Program Director for the Academy Art Museum, in Easton.
