Walter Edward Jones
CAMBRIDGE - Walter Edward Jones, 57, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 at Dorchester General Hospital.
He was the son of Asbury Jones Sr. and the late Rosalie Plater Jones. Born on Nov. 1, 1950, he was the fifth of eight children. His parents raised him in a Christian home.
Walter was a member of Bethel AME Church. He was an active member of the Sunday School and attended church services regularly. He loved to sing hymns and his voice could often be heard throughout the congregation.
Walter received his formal education in the public schools of Dorchester County. In his adult years, he enjoyed going to the Delmarva Community Center until his health no longer allowed him to attend. Since 2003, Walter has been a resident at the Mallard Bay Care Center where he enjoyed attending the worship services and participating in other activities.
He loved attending family gatherings and looked forward to his car rides throughout the county with his father.
In addition to his father, he is survived by two brothers, Asbury Jones Jr. (Doris) of Cambridge and Rudell Jones of Aquasco; five sisters, Carolyn Glee (Daniel) of Upper Marlboro, Darlene, Linda and Barbara Jones, all of Cambridge and Regina Jones of Baltimore; a nephew, Asbury Jones III (Latoya) of Westminster; five nieces, Twineia Wilmer (LeRon) of Baltimore, Bronte' Jones of Annapolis, Melissa Woodard (Vincent) and Monica Proctor (Glenn), all of Accokeek, Charisse Thompson (David) of Trappe, Dawn Jones of Owings Mills; four great-nephews, Vincent Woodard and Maleke Glee both of Accokeek, Nadar Wilmer of Baltimore and Jalen Jones of Westminster; two great-nieces, Inayah Wilmer of Baltimore and Alexis Proctor of Accokeek; a special great-aunt, Mildred Hughes of Cambridge and a number of cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Bethel AME Church, 623 Pine St. in Cambridge. Burial will follow in Old Field Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at the church and one hour prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Bethel AME Church and/ or Dorchester General Hospital.
