CAMBRIDGE — The volunteer team planning the upcoming “Light Night” event on Oct. 15 is aiming to develop the affair into an annual celebration of the Choptank River Lighthouse and what it means to the communities Cambridge and broader Dorchester County. Nearly 20,000 people have visited the replica beacon since it opened four years ago. The event, which will be held at the Cambridge Yacht Club, will feature dancing, auctions, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a sunset toast, and much more. Here, volunteers (from left) Lollie Walters, Jennifer Grier, Cheryl Willey, and Lori Powley show off a pair of planned auction items — a painting of the lighthouse by the artist Joanna McCoy, and a stained glass rendition of the Lighthouse crafted by Bill Wise. (Not pictured are Light Night team members Cassie Burton and Mari Stanley.) Proceeds from the event will benefit the Cambridge Lighthouse Foundation, a nonprofit group whose mission is to promote and enhance the Lighthouse. More details about the event, including information on ticket sales, can be found at LightNightCambridge.com or by contacting ChoptankLighthouse@gmail.com or 410-463-2635.
