CAMBRIDGE - Virginia Neal "Snappy" Webster, 88, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born on March 8, 1918, in Bucktown, Dorchester County, she was the daughter of the late Rex W. Neal Sr. and Nellie Willey Neal.
On Jan. 24 1953, she married Orem Mitchell Webster. He died on Sept. 9, 2001.
For most of her working career, she was employed at the Eastern Shore State Hospital Center as an occupational therapist.
Snappy was a charter member of the Women of the Moose where she recently received her 50-year membership pin. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of 41 years, where she received a proclamation stating such. She was also a lifetime member of the Cambridge Elks Lodge 1272. She enjoyed playing bingo at the Elks Lodge.
Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Burton and her husband, Wylie of Laurel, Del., and Diane Hughes and her husband, Bobby of Seaford, Del.; two granddaughters, Robin Simmons of Cambridge, Dawn Turner and her husband, Jimmy of Secretary; a grandson, Wayne Santmyer and his wife, Cheryl of Galena; five great-grandchildren, Blake and Cody Turner, Mitch Simmons, Allison and Ryan Santmyer; two sisters, Mary Ann Aaron of Cambridge, and Jean Cannon of Easton; sisters-in-law, Idabelle Neal and Edna Frazier, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a sister, Delma Wroten and two brothers, Rex W. Neal, Jr. and Vernon Neal and a number of in-laws.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Joan P. Evans, pastor of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Cambridge. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Hughes, Wayne Santmyer, Jimmy Turner, Blake Turner, Raymond Aaron and Kenneth Robbins.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made in Mrs. Webster's memory to the Delmarva Community Services, Inc., P.O. Box 637, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to a charity of one's choice.
