Violet Richards Nichols
WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Violet Richards Nichols, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009. She was 89. She was an alumna of St. Mary's College of Maryland and attended Western Maryland College and The Peabody Conservatory. She taught piano and ballroom dancing when she was younger and her family always loved her playing piano for them. She moved to Williamsburg from Salisbury, a year ago to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Since moving to Williamsburg, she enjoyed corresponding with her close friend, Alexander Porianda, of Salisbury, and several other friends. Her parents were James and India Richards of Hurlock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Walter Vane Nichols; and son, Joseph Gregory Nichols. She is survived by her daughter, Sally Nichols Haller and husband Frederick Ryan Haller of Williamsburg, Va.; a brother-in-law, Richard Nichols of Easton; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
