Perryville won both men’s and women’s titles for the second year in a row. C-SD girls’ head coach Lois Narr said, “I’m just so proud of all the kids. Nearly every athlete scored for the team, and those who didn’t set personal records.”

Maryland high school track and field is divided into four regions, according to school size by student population. Region 1A, comprised of the smallest 25 percent of schools, is further divided into four divisions. Eleven women’s and 12 men’s teams competed in the 1A East Championships at Kent Island High School on Thursday and Saturday. The top eight finishers in each event scored for their teams, with the top four qualifying for the state championships. Perryville women continued their winning ways with a team score of 244, followed by C-SD with 136, Bohemia Manor 83, Colonel Richardson 39, Joppatowne and Snow Hill 37, Mardela 30, North Dorchester 27, Pocomoke 25, Crisfield 12 and Havre de Grace 7. For the men, team scores were Pocomoke 140.5, Colonel Richardson 119, Bohemia Manor 110, C-SD 100, Havre de Grace 83.5, Snow Hill 60, Kent County 22, Crisfield 17, North Dorchester 17, Pocomoke 10, Washington (Somerset Co.) 10 and Mardela 3. Among C-SD’s top performaces at regionals were 1A East championships won by Zakiya Chikwendu in pole vault, Madde Narr in the 3,200- and 1,600-meter runs, Kindall Ridgely in the 100-meter hurdles and Dishawn Elliott, Jerwan Hayes, Eltoro Robertson and Matt Koletsky in the 4x400-meter relay. “It was our most epic race of the year,” Matt posted on social media. “We took first in the most awesome way.” North Dorchester High School will also be represented at states. The girls’ 4x100 relay team of Nicole Waples, Keshyara Jolley, Andrea Jones and Myasia Jones placed second. The same girls in the 4x200 took third and will compete at Morgan State in that event. Nicole will also advance in long jump, after her third-place finish at Kent Island. Eagles men are sending 1A East shot put champion Dajon Pittman, who won with a throw of 38’ 11”. State Championships for Regions 1A and 2A will begin at 4 p.m. tomorrow in Morgan State’s Hughes Stadium. Finals for all regions will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. In the meantime, the Vikings are enjoying their success as a team and as individuals, as well as the lessons learned during a long season.
