With Cambridge-South Dorchester down 1-0 in the second inning, Head Coach Kareem Otey knew her girls had to keep their composure and play hard. “We knew Mardela would be extremely tough,” she said. The win brought the varsity squad’s record to 6-1. Mardela dropped to 5-2. Freshman pitcher Maddie Pleasants had another big day on the mound, with 12 strikeouts. She’s been successful at the plate, too – with a single on Friday and five homeruns so far this season, she is the Vikes’ top hitter. Also boosting the home team’s offense were Chloe Warrell, with two RBIs and a single. Brooke Windsor knocked a stand-up double and drove in a run, while Delaney Henry and Maddie Lednum each added a single to the tally. The Vikings’ only loss so far this season came at the hands of Caroline County rivals Col. Richardson. And guess who’s coming to town tomorrow ... that’s right, the Colonels. Should be an interesting rematch, with the first pitch at 4 p.m.
