CAMBRIDGE – The Cambridge-South Dorchester High School (1A) men’s basketball team raised their record to 4-1 on Thursday, beating the visiting Queen Anne’s County Lions (2A) 60-51. VeJon Ashley led the Vikings’ offense with 15 points. The Lions’ record fell to 2-3. The fast-paced and competitive contest featured numerous lead changes, until the fourth quarter, when C-SD pulled ahead for good. “I think overall, we fought through,” Head Coach Marty Bailey said after the game. He is in his first season at C-SD. The speed of play was no accident. “We try to put them in a position to use their athletic ability,” Coach Bailey said. “That’s why we don’t play slow.” The first quarter ended with a thin C-SD lead - 13-12. The Vikes were still ahead at the half-time break, 26-22, as the Lions gained and lost the lead throughout the second quarter. In the third period, the visitors went up 33-28 around the 5-minute mark, and then by 8 a couple minutes later, adding a total of 20 points to their tally. Finally, the Vikings’ energetic defense and a burst of C-SD scoring earned the lead and the win in the fourth quarter. The Vikings’ roster is comprised of Tyombre McKnight, Keshawn Potter, Dajawan Jackson, Logan Middleton, Aaron Henson, Jyquan Farrare, Davion Ralph, Tranell Clanton, Davon Linder, Malik Ennals, VeJon Ashley, Khalik Beasley and Alex Clayton. Lions’ senior Nick Dunkerly led his team in scoring, with 13. The Vikings have a neutral, non-conference game versus Forest Park of Woodbridge, Va., on Friday at 10 a.m. The game will take place at Wicomico High School in Salisbury.
