BALTIMORE — The Cambridge-South Dorchester High School Vikings football team will play in the Division 1A semi-finals this Friday, after beating Edmondson-Westside on Nov. 22, 36-26. The game was played at a neutral site, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.

The competitive contest featured numerous lead changes, though the Edmondson men were ahead most of the game. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that the Vikings took the lead for good.

The Vikes’ defense showed up when it counted — with the game hanging in the balance late, lineman Avery Nichols made a big stop to give the C-SD squad possession.

The game had a special thrill for fans, when wide receiver Logan Middleton caught his 11th touchdown pass of the season. This broke tight end and former head coach Jake Coleman’s single-season record for scoring receptions.

The Vikings will play Dunbar, who beat Perryville, 38-0. The game will be at Dunbar, on Saturday at 1 p.m.

In other results, Catoctin beat Fairmont Heights, 41-21, and Fort Hill beat Randallstown, 53-13.

The winners of next week’s games will determine the two teams that will play for the 1A state championship on Dec. 7. That game will take place at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis, kickoff at 3:30 p.m.

Many of C-SD’s dedicated fans traveled to Baltimore to cheer for their team, and others followed updates online, posted by C-SD teacher Christina Smith. "These boys are family. The memories they are making on the field will carry them through life," Ms. Smith wrote.

The result leaves C-SD with a record of 10-2 on the season. Dunbar will come into next week’s game with a record of 11-1.
