CAMBRIDGE — Again this year, the 19th annual Festival of Wreaths/Holiday Benefit Gala to be held on Dec. 6 will have an eclectic group of auction items at Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care. The Gala opens at 5:30 at 2474 Cambridge Beltway with a “Taste of Dorchester” supplied by 20 local restauranteurs and a “Wine Tasting.” While you are tasting the wines and the tidbits of great food and greeting old friends you will be placing your bid on one or more of the 85 magnificent designer wreaths, all before 7 p.m. It is at 7 that the silent auction ends and the live auction by Buddy Foxwell begins. And what an auction it is. There is something for everyone, about 25 items, featuring seafood; certificates for crabs live, steamed, and picked, a bushel of Chesapeake Bay oysters and shucked oysters and #2 commemorative oyster can. And while it is not caught locally how about 20 pounds of shrimp. There will be a bar cart with a case of wine. Thomas’s Fine Jewelry is designing a sterling one of a kind pin/pendant. Donated is a Robert Tolley signed painting entitled “Geese,” sometimes called the “Mischievous Geese.” with one goose turning his head the other way. A “Sunset Cruise” for 6 on the Choptank captained by Guy Edgar with wine and crackers, don’t know if sunset is guaranteed but it sounds fun. The Dorchester County Commission on the Aging, Inc., a private nonprofit that operates Pleasant Day has donated a big basket of cheer. Also donated is a Kate Spade purse, a bouquet of “dining out” gift certificates, see our ad for more items. Andrew Todd, Pleasant Day Editor, developed the concept, fixed the pallet and worked with the Veterans to paint and decorate the flag. Buddy Foxwell will auction this one of a kind item during the Holiday Benefit Gala on Dec. 6. While it may not have the prestige of a Robert Tolley painting, the value to the Veterans cannot be measured. “Andrew says it was such a pleasure to help the Veterans enjoy the planning of it in the warm September sunshine and sharing memories and companionship while working on this flag.” With a polyurethane finish it can be used in or outside. The Veterans group hope whoever buys it will enjoy it as much as they enjoyed making it. All proceeds from the Festival of Wreaths/Holiday Benefit Gala will be used to benefit the Pleasant Day participants. Remember that Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care is a nonprofit organization.
