CABOT, Pa. - Val Jean (Bartell) Brown, 83, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, after a lengthy illness.
She was born March 12, 1923, in Tarentum, daughter of the late James L. Bartell and Matilda Scovern Bartell.
Mrs. Brown was a 1940 graduate of Har-Brack High School and a graduate of West Liberty State College as a dental hygienist.
She was a homemaker and had also worked for the former Credit Bureau of New Kensington for 15 years.
Mrs. Brown was affiliated with the Cabot United Methodist Church and was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Brackenridge.
A volunteer at Allegheny Valley Hospital, she was a member of River Forest Women's Golf League and also enjoyed bowling and playing cards. She was also a member of Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband of 35 years, Regis B. Brown of Winfield Twp; a son, James Oddis and his wife, Katherine of Cambridge; a stepson, Alan K. Brown and his wife, Mary of Brentwood, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Danny Oddis, Beth Ann Jones (Kevin), David Brown (Ashley), Jonathan Brown and Lauren Brown; one great-grandson, Logan Jones; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Jones.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Bartell.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Krynicki Funeral Home, Inc. in Natrona Heights, Pa. with the Rev. Matthew Judd officiating. Burial followed in the Mount Airy Cemetery, Harrison Twp, Pa.
