CAMBRIDGE - Virginia Jeannette Coleman, 73, of passed away Dec. 10, 2007, at Dorchester General Hospital.

Jeannette was born Dec. 16, 1934 in Cambridge, to the late Elsie Mae Phillips and the late Guy Dean.

She attained her schooling in Cambridge, and was very athletic in those years, playing in women's softball leagues. She was very involved in sports in Dorchester County, along with her late husband, Willis Leonard Coleman Sr., who coached in different baseball leagues.

She was retired from Air Liquide.

Mrs. Coleman was famous for her cooking and her story telling. Jeannette, or "Me Mom" as she was affectionately known, lived a pretty simple life. She was extremely knowledgeable, especially of anything pertaining to history. The family called her "the walking history channel."

She leaves behind four children: Linda Elliott (Robert) of Trappe, Garry Coleman (Barbara), Willis Leonard Coleman Jr. (Cindy), Charles Coleman (Mary), all from Cambridge; a sister, Sharon Shores (Jimmy) also of Cambridge; eight grandchildren (Derek, Jordan, Jake, Cory, and Justin Coleman, Linda Elliott, Julie Elliott-Holland, and Stacia Coleman-Banks (Nathan); as well as 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will be receiving friends from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home. Services will be held privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made in Mrs. Coleman's memory to the C-SDHS Athletic Department, 2475 Cambridge Bypass, Cambridge, MD 21613.
