Ugly Sweater Fun Run collects gifts

ST. MICHAELS – Athletes from the Mid-Shore gathered Sunday to take part in a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) race to benefit the less fortunate. Organized by TriCycle and Run of St. Michaels, the Third Annual Ugly Sweater Free 5K Fun Run collected no cash, only items for the less fortunate.

“Instead of a race entry fee, we all brought an unwrapped gift,” participant Alisha Saulsbury said. “It’s a great idea, to encourage running for a good cause.”

The event was made all the more festive, as runners were asked to wear the ugliest sweaters they could find.

“Who doesn’t love a great ugly sweater?” a statement from organizers said. “Even if you don’t currently have one hiding in the depths of your closet, we can bet you know where to find one, or can make one.”

Competitions held by TriCycle and Run are prediction races.

“That means we ask you to guess your finish time before you start. Those that come the closest to their actual time (within 10 seconds) will be declared the winners,” the statement said.

Winners were Jaime Cantlon, Michael Keene, Sarah Spittler, Cale Siver, Wren Williams, Ian Williams and Alisha Saulsbury.

TriCycle and Run is located at 929 South Talbot St., St. Michaels.
