CAMBRIDGE — Two Cambridge men have been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of Michael Clarence Wheatley Jr.

At approximately 12:37 a.m. on May 1, officers from the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) responded to 610 Pine St. in reference to a disturbance. When they arrived at the scene, they observed someone dragging a male subject out of the side door of the apartment complex, leaving the subject lying in the street, a report from the CPD said.

“Officers quickly made contact with the male subject lying in the street and determined him to have severe injuries to the face and head area and was unresponsive,” the report said. “After determining that the victim did not have a pulse, life-saving measures were attempted by officers and EMS personnel on scene, however, the attempts were unsuccessful.”

Mr. Wheatley, 46, of Cambridge, was pronounced dead. His body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

“Through further investigation into this incident and interviewing witnesses within the apartment complex it was determined that a commotion was heard in the hallway area of the apartment and evidence shows that there was a physical altercation,” the CPD report said. “Detectives were able to obtain two suspects who were observed in the altercation with the victim.”

Larry Dwayne Holland, 55, and Scott Harry Robinson, 37, both of Cambridge, have been charged with first- and second-degree murder and related charges. They are being held in the Dorchester County Detention Center on no bond.

“The dispute does not appear to be domestic related at this time, however at least one of the suspects charged knew of the victim,” Lt. Justin Todd of the Cambridge Police Department told the Banner. “We are still awaiting the autopsy report to get an indication on what weapon, if any, was used during the attack.”

The exact reason for the assault is still being determined and further information will be provided as it is gathered, the CPD statement said. Anyone with any further information into this incident is urged to contact the Cambridge Police Department, at 410-228-3333.
