CAMBRIDGE — The Dorchester Trailblazers 4-H Club assisted the Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center (ESAHEC) in preparing over 700 dental health kits for the Tooth Fairy’s Helper to distribute to children on the Eastern Shore. Each kit contains a toothbrush, toothpaste, flossers, timer, sticker, and educational material to promote good oral hygiene. The former Tooth Fairy’s Helper, Jeanie Holtz, RDH, will be retiring and is passing her magic wand to Caitlin Donohue-Vega, RDH, BS. Ms. Vega travels across all nine counties on the Eastern Shore to visit the head start programs, early learning centers and elementary schools, as well as participating in community health fairs. Cavities are the most common chronic childhood disease in the United States and are largely preventable. The purpose of this program is to promote good oral hygiene and decrease the rate of oral disease, which in turn leads to healthier lifestyles. Ms. Vega uses songs, puppets, and demonstrations to deliver her message and each students receives a free “Tooth Fairy’s Helper” kit.
