Town Square is an opinion column to which readers can submit their views. As a true community newspaper, we’re always looking for ways to include local thought and pertinent viewpoints. This column is a way to share those thoughts. Civility and fair comment will always prevail.

First responders, citizens, rescue neighbors
IN AWE: I talked to my friend, Ted Thomas, at the Kite Festival and he said he was on the way to church when he saw the fire [“Two-alarm fire hits Race St.,” this issue.] It was before the police or fire trucks got there. He said he took an air conditioner unit out of a window so that he could climb through and rescue people. He said he took out one older woman and two boys. I’m in awe of all of you. You truly are earth angels. Thank you for your selflessness!

ALL HEART: There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer.

AWESOME: Prayers for all that have been impacted by this very unfortunate event. House fires change so many lives in such an instant. So much loss of property, but no loss of life. Very thankful for all the people who stopped and helped and to the fire department whose members put the fire out and prevented the other properties on either side from burning down. Awesome job!

HEROES: Don’t say, “I’m not a hero,” because yes you are! As my fireman friends always said, “They think we’re crazy because we’re running into buildings that most people are running out of.” Courage under fire is not just for the veterans, but literally for you too. Thank you from the people you rescued and from us.

GRATITUDE: Thankful for all you do and for all who saved the lives of the dozen people. Thankful also for those who choose to save lives and protect others each day.

HAPPY ENDING: Amazing story with a happy ending. Thank God for you guys, in the right place at the right time. If you hear anything about the family’s needs, please share.

THANK YOU, MARIA: Thank you so much Juanita Darby! My elderly great aunt and family live downstairs. When I got the call, I jumped up and was on my way. God truly sent angels this morning. May God continue to bless you and your family.

BLESSINGS: Thank you for taking time out of your personal time to stop and help this family. You are true heroes and may God bless you.

COMMUNITY: Praise the Lord that everyone is ok. What a great job. We are so blessed to live in a community whose members care about each other. May God bless all of you.
