VIENNA — Cancer survivors will soon be treated like Hollywood stars at Layton’s Chance Vineyard and Winery.
Tickets are still available for a private event, Dress for Life, Oct. 2 at the winery at 4225 New Bridge Road in Vienna. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m.
“It’s basically a fashion show of survivors,” said Melody Adkins, event organizer. “It is being done for the Relay for Life teams if they got involved.”
Relay for Life teams raise funds for the American Cancer Society all year until the May event. According to Ms. Adkins, cancer survivors from local teams will be fashionably dressed, pampered, decked out and some will receive a makeup makeover before taking to the catwalk.
As of Sept. 13, Ms. Adkins said 12 members from nine teams are participating in the fashion show. The models will be a mix of women, men and children who have survived various forms of cancer.
Tickets must be purchased in advance for $25, and include entrance, wine tasting at Layton’s, and heavy hors d’oeuvres including wings and crab dip, vegetables, fruit and a cheese tray. Profits from Layton’s Chance sales will be donated to the Relay for Life teams.
“We like to help local groups. We feel like they’re putting all this work into planning the events,” said Jennifer Layton, managing owner of the vineyard and winery. “It’s always great when people use our facilities, so we like to give back to organizations that use our venue. It’s a positive, feel good event that’s for a great cause.”
Vendors will also be present and will donate a portion of their proceeds to the cause. Some of the participating vendors are Plunder Jewelry, Ms. Adkins; LuLaRoe, Renee Massaracchia; Thirty One, Amy Betts; Mary Kay, Emily Stone and team; Bombshell Hair Studio; and Mowbray Floral Decorations, Brittany Mowbray.
The night will also feature raffles and giveaways. All proceeds will be distributed among the participating teams. Ms. Adkins said Dress for Life is an inside/outside event and she asked ticketholders to bring lawn chairs.
”We’re celebrating the fight, and we’re doing what we can to support that fight,” Ms. Adkins said.
