CAMBRIDGE — The 12th Annual Eastern Shore Hospital Center Auxiliary’s Run/Walk was a huge success — raising over $10,000 to benefit direct patient services. Over 200 participants including Senator Addie Eckardt and nine Community Teams — Body Pump, Mom-Mom’s Gang, Dorchester County YMCA, MCF — Walking for Our Kids, Mid-Shore Sole Sisters, Cambridge Multi-Sport, Crossroads Cavaliers, Wolf Pack and the Wellness Gang joined us for a gorgeous day on the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay’s 18-Hole River Marsh Golf Club. Kudos to the Hyatt’s GM, Randy Thompson who volunteered to be the Race Marshall, leading participants by bike. Congratulations to the following 10K Run winners: 1st Place Male, Michael Sewell – 38:36.0; 1st Place Female, Melissa Coenen – 46:06.08; 2nd Place Male, David Vitonovec - 39:34.9; 2nd Place Female, Susie Conner - 48:38.8; 3rd Place Male, Alan Pobletts – 41:04.1; 3rd Place Female, Sarah Rentz – 49:19.1. This was truly a family affair with Randy’s wife Christine and their 5-year-old twin boys doing pre-race stretches before their run. What will 2016 bring? For sure, more high chairs for the post-event breakfast and from the looks of things, perhaps a Stroller Stroll! Many thanks to supporters: Different Drummer Farm-Sharon Borg Wall; William H. Webb; Hudson Health Services, Inc.; Ann E. Brooks; Dr. Connie Corson and Brees; Senator Addie C. Eckardt; MTS Broadcasting, LLC; Pepsi Bottling Ventures; Maryland Healthy Weighs, LLC; Dr. James G. and Anne W. McAnulty; The Dorchester County Family YMCA, Inc.; Dr. and Mrs. D. Graham Slaughter; Belly Busters Seafood & Deli, Ocean City; Fashion Access, Inc.; Giant Food Stores; New Revived United Methodist Church; Vernon Powell - The Athlete, Salisbury. “We extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to all of those who have supported – and continue to support – our efforts to enhance the Treatment Mall programs, services and patient care; approximately 65 percent of ESHC patients are deemed indigent and it is the Auxiliary’s goal to raise $10,000 a year in order to give those patients approximately $1 per day to use in the center’s café or gift shop. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Run/Walk will be given directly to our indigent residents,” said Betty Webster, ESHC treasurer. The hospital is geographically located in Dorchester County. However, its primary service area for in-hospital patients is the lower shore counties of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. In addition to raising funds for its, chronically ill patients, the race gives the opportunity to increase awareness about mental illness and its devastating effects on those who are diagnosed with this disease.
