Sylvester Gordy Sr.

SALISBURY - Sylvester Raymond Gordy Sr., known to many as "Sly" and to his family as "Butch," died Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, at Peninsula General Regional Medical Center.
A 1971 graduate of Wicomico Senior High School, he attended Cortez Peters School of Business, where he graduated with honors. In 1974, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served for almost 17 years and received several medals and ribbons. He was a member of Seventh Tabernacle Bethel all his life, as well as the Salisbury VFW on West Main Street.
He and his wife, Yvonne Petties, had two children, Kimberly Nicole and Sylvester Jr. He is survived by his son and daughter; six grandchildren; his mother, Gracie Maybelline Gordy; his sister, Jennifer Hill; a brother, Bryan Wright; a stepsister, Amanda Legon Maith; a stepbrother, Ivan Tilghman; and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Michael and Reginald, preceded him in death.
A funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, at the New Life Seventh Day Adventist Church in Salisbury. Interment was in Eastern Shore Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock. Arrangements are by Stewart Funeral Home by Holloway and Downey in Salisbury.
