CAMBRIDGE - Registration is now open for new spring classes and workshops at Dorchester Center for the Arts. Registration may be made online at dorchesterarts.org, by phone at 410-228-7782, or by stopping by 321 High Street in Cambridge. DCA is open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and Thursday, noon-8 p.m.
New offerings include:
Drawing Down the Sun with Elizabeth Kauffman. Six-week observational drawing and watercolor class where students will primarily draw outside during the “golden hour” near sunset. All skill levels are welcome. Thursdays, April 7-May 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Mosaic Workshop with Joanne Gelles. Learn how to make an outdoor Garden Stepping Stone in this three-part class. Meets Thursdays, April 7, 14, 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Open to ages 16 and up. Instructor Joanne Gelles has been doing mosaic art for over 10 years.
Drawing Basics with Robert Gladney. Learn how to observe and draw objects from life. Working in pencil and charcoal, students will learn skills for creating a successful basic drawing. Open to ages 16 and up. Six-week class meets Thursdays, April 7-May 12, 6-8 p.m.
Painting with Wool with Laura Rankin. A one-day workshop Thursday, April 9, 1-4 p.m., exploring painting with wool through 2D needle felting on craft felt backing. Learn basic techniques of composition, color blending and how to get the most from the wool for color interest and subtleties.
Delve into the One-Act. Play reading guided by Karel Cooperman, Fridays, 1-3 p.m. starting April 8. Each week will be a self-contained reading and rehearsal of a short play with assigned roles. No acting experience needed, just an interest in reading and discussing short plays.
Stained Glass with Jan Boettger. All abilities are welcome; beginners to those who have previous experience and just want a place to do some projects. Beginners are taught techniques necessary to construct their own small copper foiled stained-glass panel. Meets 10 weeks, Tuesdays, April 19-June 21. Two class options: 4-6 p.m. or 6-8 p.m.
