CAMBRIDGE - Fun & Funky Furniture with Terri Griffin returns to Dorchester Center for the Arts for a two-day workshop on Aug. 5-6. The class meets Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday noon-6 p.m. This adult workshop will teach the art of upcycling furniture. Through the magic of ideas, paint, glue and other materials, a shabby old piece of furniture will be transformed into a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

Students learn how to decoupage and embellish with a variety of items, then seal the piece with polyurethane to last a lifetime. Students should bring a small piece of furniture; all other supplies will be provided.

Participants take home their completed piece of furniture as well as an instructional printout of the process for future reference. Suggested furniture pieces include an end table, small cabinet or a small chair. The cost of the two-day workshop is $125 for DCA members, and $160 for non-members.

For youth ages 6-17, WorldWide Hope returns with two Up-cycle Bottle Craft workshops. Students will turn trash into treasure during these upcycling workshops with WorldWide Hope founder Griselda Jiménez. Students will learn about caring for the environment while creating art out of a recycled bottle. This class is taught in both English and Spanish.

One day workshops will be Saturday, Sept. 10 and Sept. 17, 1-4 p.m. The cost per workshop is $15 for DCA members, $20 non-members.
