Dorchester Center for the Arts is pleased to present two exhibitions in the galleries for February. Pierre Bowins and his exhibition, “A Sin of Omission: The Immoral Unbalance in the History of Graphic Design,” is featured in the Graham and Judy Slaughter Hall Gallery and in the Main Gallery.

“A Sin of Omission,” states Bowins, “is my journey of researching the missing Black American diaspora in the field of graphic design. The purpose of my work is to bring to the forefront and create a dialogue for those persons having origins in any of the Black racial groups of Africa who contributed to design with little to no recognition in the classroom and history books.”

Bowins will present a talk at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, prior to the Second Saturday Artists’ Reception from 5-7 p.m. The reception will include music and light refreshments. There is no charge to attend, and all are welcome.

Additionally, in the H. Theodore and Barbara S. Wilson Gallery, Mike Bryan curates an exhibition titled “A Ghanian Experience,” which features art, artifacts and textiles from his recent journey to Ghana, Africa. On Feb. 9, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Bryan will present a free talk on this life-changing experience, and of the amazing art and textiles he collected during his travels. Both exhibits will run through Feb. 25.

Gallery hours at the Dorchester Center for the Arts are Tuesday and Thursday, noon–8 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
