Spectrum: Concerts coming to the George B. Todd Performance Hall

CAMBRIDGE – Dorchester Center for the Arts announces a new partnership with the Harriet Tubman Museum and Education Center for their 2024 Jazz at the Mural Series. All concerts will be held in the George B. Todd Performance Hall at DCA. The series kicks off Jan. 27 with the Sol Roots Band at 7 p.m.; all others will be Second Saturday performances starting at 6 p.m.

Jan. 27 – Sol Roots: an award-winning blend of New Orleans influenced funk, heartfelt jazz and soul, deep blues and hypnotic rhythms. Sol is a fierce guitarist and soulful singer who has toured the world with many musical legends.

May 11 – Sam O’Hare and Danny Garrett: This guitar and harmonica duo plays the blues with all the traditional fingerpicking and tongue-blocking rhythms that the blues has to offer, along with singing and songwriting that comes from country and folk influences.

June 15 – Alison Crockett: a vibrant vocalist who has performed and recorded in a wide range of genres including neo-soul, acid jazz, R&B, gospel, and funk. Alison has shared her amazing vocals performing with DJ King Britt, Us3 and a host of others.

July 13 – Paul Carr: a master saxophonist who has dedicated his career to jazz performance, education and presentation. Known for his hard-charging and soulful post-bop style, Carr has recorded eight records, which have all lived on the top jazz charts consecutively.

Aug. 17 – Reggie Upshaw: a triple threat from the Boston Area. His clear tenor vocals can take the listener from Brazil to the Louisiana Blues. He has the harmonic sensibility of Jon Hendricks and has the creative musical moves of Al Jarreau.

Sept. 14 – Eric Byrd Trio: This group has traveled the world as enthusiastic ambassadors of jazz. Rooted in swing and bebop, the trio also embraces gospel and the blues as core elements of their expansive performance style.

Oct. 12 – Hickory Grove: formed in 1989 to play folk, Americana and bluegrass music. The band has played in an array of regional venues ranging from Downs Park to Waterford, Va., and from town festivals to the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage.

Dec. 14 – David Cole: This powerful guitarist has played around the world with some of the top names in blues, jazz and R&B, including Percy Sledge, Archie Bell, Little Royal, Regina Belle, the Delfonics, Roberta Flack and others, combining his skills as an ace guitarist with soulful vocals.
