CAMBRIDGE – Dorchester Center for the Arts is pleased to feature two fun and energetic exhibitions for August. Matt Brady’s “Art of the Shark” fills the Main Gallery, with “The Comic Book Art of Lee Reece” in The H. Theodore and Barbara S. Wilson Gallery as well as the Graham and Judith Slaughter Hall Gallery. Both exhibits run Aug. 4-26.

An artists’ talk will be held Aug. 8 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. with Matt Brady and Dennis Kurth. The Second Saturday Artists’ Reception will be held Aug. 12 from 5-7 p.m. with live music and light refreshments. Lee Reece will give an artist’s talk at 5:30 p.m. Our thanks to August gallery sponsor Crosby & Associates.

Shark Sauce started with a simple idea; incorporate local art, produce and businesses into a single product. Each bottle features a unique comic done by local artists that incorporate Shark Sauce’s mascot Clark the Shark.

With help from talented local artist Dennis Kurth, the image and branding of Shark Sauce was created in October 2021. Dennis has created all the amazing logos for Shark Sauce and has also done most of the comics featured on the Shark Sauce bottles.

Matt Brady wanted to incorporate his love for fresh flavors and his love of artwork into something simple and incorporate other local businesses along the journey. Over the course of Shark Sauces' short existence, he has been able to do just that, by using local art, and locally grown produce and working with local small businesses to do new and exciting projects.

Also, Shark Sauce has teamed up with local comic store Kraven’s Comics to create the exclusive Villainous Verde sauce that is made and sold right here in Cambridge. Using fresh and local ingredients has been a focus of Shark Sauce right from the beginning so using produce from local farms such as Harris Farms, Emily’s Produce, and Roundstone Farms has been a key mission for the company.

Lee Reece is an independent comic book creator who has been drawing since he could hold a pencil and was first commissioned at 7 years old. He has a background in graphic design for 25 years and has recently turned his attention back to illustrating comic books.

Lee prefers to create traditional illustrations and has added digital illustrations to his portfolio. His main goal is to keep learning, as well as teach, as much as he can to fuel his passion for the comic book industry.
