CAMBRIDGE – Creative experiences for all are featured for August at DCA. The teen art intensive continues July 31-Aug. 4, Aug. 7-11 and Aug. 14-18. This free series for students entering 9-12th grade is offered at no charge thanks to a grant from the City of Cambridge. Students will work with a variety of mediums to create a body of work, and then curate an exhibition of that work at DCA. Meets weekly Monday-Friday 1-3 p.m. Call 410-228-7782 or register online at dorchesterarts.org.
Adults can have an arts experience, too. In partnership with Wednesday Morning Artists, a Raku firing workshop will be offered Aug. 20, with a hand-build ceramics class Aug. 2 to create the work. Find out more and register online at dorchesterarts.org.
Back by popular demand, a summer pop-up open mic will be held one night only, Aug. 15, 6-9 p.m., hosted by Mike Sosler. Come out and enjoy some of the area’s best local talent or share your own.
DCA will hold the annual membership meeting Aug. 15, at 4 p.m., before the open mic. DCA members are asked to RSVP to 410-228-7782 if they plan to attend the meeting.
Groove Theatre Company opens their new show “Torch Song,” directed by Tally Wilford. Written by Harvey Fierstein and winner of the 1983 Tony Award for Best Play, Torch Song follows Arnold Beckoff's odyssey to find happiness in New York. Showtimes at DCA are Aug. 11, 7 p.m., Aug. 12, 7 p.m., Aug. 13, 3 p.m., Aug. 18, 7 p.m., Aug. 19, 7 p.m., and Aug. 20, 3 p.m. Tickets may be purchased by visiting Groove Theatre online at groovetheatre.com.
