The show is held each year with the goal of preserving Dorchester’s heritage by recognizing its resources and spotlighting the people who carry out unique talents in their way of life. Throughout the weekend exhibitors and vendors will be displaying and selling their goods. Local seafood will be available. There will be crab cakes, oyster fritters, soft crabs, crab soup, or oyster stew. Non-seafood selections will also be available. On Saturday you will be able to try muskrat cooked the traditional South Dorchester way. On Friday, doors open at 5 p.m. with the highlight of the evening the Miss Outdoor Scholarship Pageant that begins at 7:30. Following that will be the semi-final competition for Men’s and Women’s World Champion Muskrat Skinning. On Saturday, doors open at 10:30 a.m. with the Little Miss and Little Mister Outdoors contest and Smokey Bear. During the afternoon there will be cooking demonstrations, duck, goose and turkey calling; log sawing and pole skinning; musrkat cooking contest and a children’s photo contest. Saturday evening begins at 7 p.m. featuring competitions in oyster shucking, corn shelling, junior and senior trap setting and the world championships competitions in muskrat skinning, raccoon skinning, nutria skinning and trap setting. There will also be live auction and silent auction items. New this year are wristbands available for all three shows. They must be purchased by Feb. 25 and are available at Foxwell Auction, 5469 Moose Lodge Road, Cambridge, Tuesday through Saturday. Cost is $18 for adults and $7 for children under 12.
