The skipjack Nathan of Dorchester spent the week up on blocks last week for an annual inspection.
The Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester, normally berthed at Long Wharf in Cambridge, was pulled out at Generation III boatyard for an annual inspection and minor repairs last week. When we stopped by, Chairman Lou Hyman and volunteer Donna Dunlop were wielding paintbrushes sprucing up the exterior, and a small part of the deck rail was being replaced. “Typically we would have a Coast Guard inspection of the hull each year,” said Dan Cada, maintenance chairman of the Dorchester Skipjack Committee, “but their staffing doesn’t allow them to make as many inspections as they’d like to. I’ve been under the boat for the last few days, tapping every plank, and I can report that everything rang nicely, so we’re happy with that. This is a great time to pull the boat and get the bottom in shape, so you’re ready for another year, or a race, if that may be.” Sounds like the Nathan of Dorchester is going to be ready for the upcoming Schooner Rendezvous!
