EASTON – The 2019 Shore Leadership Class attended a two-day Orientation on April 23 and 24 at the Tidewater Inn in Easton. Twenty-four new class members participated in Orientation under Leadership Facilitators Carol Graser and Dr. Joe Thomas of the Annapolis Leadership Center.

The class focused on the basics of Leadership Development on the first day and participated in team building exercises around Easton. On the second day the focus shifted to their MBTI Results and how that effects their leadership and communicating with others.

On May 15 the Class headed to Caroline County for their session on Education. Hosted by the Chesapeake Culinary Center and Caroline County Public Schools, the class was treated to a delicious breakfast, lunch and snack by the Caroline County Public School Culinary Arts students under the direction of Chef Shawn Harlan.

The morning session was led by Carol Graser with the focus on Emotional Intelligence.

The afternoon was spent visiting the Caroline Career and Technology Center Advanced Manufacturing Program (AMP). Students and staff described their experiences in this new program and how their leadership, public speaking, and collaborating skills have improved since becoming involved.

The students showed off the items they have created including guitars that they made through a partnership with PRS Guitars, Inc.
Christie Woodard, hr manager for PRS and Nicole Mihalos, executive director and co-founder of Untangled Minds Foundation were on hand to talk about their involvement with the development of the program and working with the students on their projects and internships.

The class reconvened at the Culinary Center to meet with Dr. Derek Simmons, supervisor of Student Services; Dr. Elaine O’Neal, cohort coordinator and instructor for the Salisbury University Elementary Education Program; Susan McCandless, director of Schools; and Teresa French, Caroline County Judy Center director.

The presentation focused on “The Whole Child / Whole Community” services for children followed by a panel discussion.
