Sarah McAllister Thrash

SALISBURY - Sarah "Sally" McAllister Thrash died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018, at Coastal Hospice At The Lake. Born in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Addams Stratton and Homé Stephens McAllister.
For many years she was "The Story Lady" at area schools, where she recited stories and poems with puppets. She reviewed children's books for The Horn Book and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Sally collected and created dollhouse miniatures, enjoyed embroidery and water aerobics.
She was an active member at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salisbury where she sang in the choir, served on the Altar Guild and in the Comforters prayer group. She retired as the Director of the Seaford District Library in Seaford. She was a lifetime member of the Alumni Associations of both James Madison University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She is survived by her daughter, Monica C. Thrash of Salisbury; her son, Christopher B. Thrash of Flagstaff, Ariz.; a grandson; one brother, A. Stratton McAllister Jr.; two sisters, Homé M. Reitwiesner and Lydia M. Mefford; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James R. Thrash and a sister, Judy M. French.
A funeral service was held Monday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Salisbury. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
