GOLDEN HILL - Sara Simmons Gootee, 87, died Monday morning, April 21, 2008 at Memorial Hospital at Easton.

Born on Oct. 18, 1920 in Germantown, Pa, she was the daughter of the late Caleb Alexander Simmons and Mary Cousins Simmons.

Sara was one of the founders of Gootee's Marina. Her life was working at Gootee's Marine, fixing Sunday dinners, going to church, and caring for her family and friends.

Sara was a communicant of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Catholic Church in Golden Hill.

Surviving are two sons, Philip Henry Gootee and his wife, Judy of Golden Hill, Thomas Joseph Gootee and his wife, Donna of Golden Hill; a brother, Robert Simmons; two sisters, Elizabeth Dodson and Ruth Willey, all of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Craig Gootee of Florida, Philip A. Gootee II of Golden Hill, Nick Gootee of Golden Hill and Jenny Gootee-Whitten and her husband, Steve, also of Golden Hill.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband, Philip Gootee, was a brother, John Simmons and three sisters, Mary Hollander, Florence Turner, and Dorothy Belanga and a grandson, Chris Gootee.

The family will receive friends at the Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. tonight from 7 – 9. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at St. Mary Star of the Sea, Catholic Church in Golden Hill. Celebrant of the Mass will be The Rev. William J. Lawler. Burial will follow at the St. Mary Star of the Sea church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charles Turner, Wallace Dodson, Wayne Willey, John Simmons, Russell Simmons, and Eddie Simmons.

Memorial offerings may be made in Sara's memory to St, Mary Star of the Sea Foundation, c/o Sara Applegarth, P.O. Box 187, Fishing Creek, MD 21634.
