EASTON - Russell Edward Perkins, 84, passed away at home, Thursday, April 3, 2008 surrounded by family, following a brief illness.
Born in Talbot County to the late Ethel Green and Leonard Perkins, Russell was educated in the Talbot County Public School System.
Partially raised by his grandmother, Lena Joshua, he attended Williamsburg Church and was responsible for collecting and recording the church tithes of the older members.
Russell served in the U.S. Navy having been stationed at Bainbridge and Annapolis. He was proud of his military career and encouraged others to take pride in serving their country. He worked to expand Blake Blackston Post 77 and ensure that all mandates were followed. He was a lifetime member with 30 years of service.
After completing his time with the Navy, he returned home to work as a master mechanic at the former Thompson Motor Company for 29 years before retiring. In retirement he enjoyed gardening, landsacping and tinkering with machinery. He was truly a "Mr. Fix-it."
He is survived by his wife, Grace; two stepsons, Charles and Angelo Copper; his stepmother, Elmira perkins; a daughter, Myrna Russum; a sister, Regina Dawson; four grandchildren, Deborah Scofield, Romaine Norris, Laurence Brice and Roshunda Russum; two aunts, Shirley Grace and Etta Butler; a daughter-in-law, Diane T. Brice; a son-in-law, Armond Russum and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Romie Brice.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Union Baptist Church in Easton. Viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial willfollow at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.
Arrangements are being handled by the Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Easton.
