CAMBRIDGE - Rosella "Rosie" Monaghan, 91, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 6, 2007, at Dorchester General Hospital.

Born on May 30, 1915, in Cumberland, Allegany County, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Agnes Britner Marlock. She was a graduate of Allegany High School.

Rosie, as she was affectionately known, was the wife of the late Samuel Young Monaghan Sr. who died Aug. 30, 1980. Mr. Monaghan had been the manager for Sears in Cambridge for many years and had been active in many community organizations.

Mrs. Monaghan was a communicant of St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, Cambridge, and had participated in the choir and Altar Guild.

Since 1950 she has been a volunteer and member of the Dorchester Hospital Auxiliary where she spent many hours at the Hospitality Gift Shop at the hospital and the Robin Hood Shop.

Rosie had been a member of the Cambridge Yacht Club and the Cambridge Country Club. She was an avid golfer.

Surviving is her son, Samuel Young "Sam" Monaghan Jr. and his wife, Susan of Cambridge; a daughter, Mary Ann Dey and her husband, Tom of Charlotte, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Samuel Young "S.Y." Monaghan III of Las Vegas, Thomas Dey and his wife, Cathi of Downingtown, Pa., Mary McGarvey, James Dey, Robert Dey and his wife, Lynn, Michael Dey, Stephen Dey and his wife, Jessica, Kathleen Griffith and her husband, Parks, all of Charlotte, N.C., Eli Graham and Aliza Graham, both of Cambridge; 14 great-grandchildren and expecting a great-grandchild any day.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a sister, Catherine Robinette.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, at St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church, Glasgow Street and Hambrooks Boulevard, Cambridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will then follow at 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow privately on Monday, at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery, Beulah.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Samuel Young "S.Y." Monaghan III, Thomas Dey, James Dey, Robert Dey, Michael Dey and Stephen Dey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to DGH Auxiliary Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 554, Cambridge, MD 21613

Arrangements are being handled by Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge.
