CAMBRIDGE — There are no holiday breaks for emergency responders. The day after Christmas found volunteers from Cambridge Rescue Fire Company at the scene of a wreck, where they extricated a victim from a vehicle.

At 6:17 p.m., Dorchester Central dispatched units for a motor vehicle collision at 2033 Hudson Road in the Cambridge 1-11 Box Area. Captain 1-3 arrived on location and established command.

Firefighters confirmed a rear-end style collision with entrapment, in which a pick-up truck had collided with a box truck. Rescue 1-1 staffed with four, arrived on location as the rescue group for the extrication.

Command requested Trooper 6 helicopter, which was dispatched to the scene as this became an extended extrication. At 7:32 p.m., the patient was flown to Shock Trauma Hospital in Baltimore.

At that time, the situation was declared under control. Command was terminated and all units were placed in service.

One Firefighter was transported for treatment to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester, priority 3.

Vehicles on site were: Chief 1; Chief 1-2; Captain 1-3 (Command); Rescue 1-1 (Extrication Group); Engine 1-3 (200’ of attack hose); and Engine 1-2 (Additional Personnel).

Mutual aid was provided by the Maryland State Police (MSP), Dorchester County Emergency Services PM100 and 101 (Cambridge), and MSP Trooper 6.
