EASTON - The Rev. Robert D. Bohaker, 89, formerly of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007.
He was born in Cambridge, Mass., on March 30, 1917, and was the son of the late Timothy Dwight and Lulu Mae Gardner Bohaker.
The Rev. Bohaker attended Boston University, and the Episcopal Theological Seminary in Cambridge, Mass. He began his ministry as rector at the Church of the Advent in Cambridge, Ohio.
He married the former Nancy Gere on April 18, 1942. The Rev. Bohaker continued his ministry as Senior Canon at St. Paul"s Cathedral in Detroit, for 15 years where he also served as chaplain at the Henry Ford Children"s Hospital. In 1961, he accepted a call to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, serving 20 years as the rector of Oxford"s Holy Trinity Church as well as Tunis Mill"s All Faith Chapel.
In 1982, he and his wife moved to Simpsonville, S.C., returning to the Shore in 1990. The Rev. Bohaker enjoyed boating, music, writing poetry, nature and animals. He had been a resident at William Hill Manor since November of 2003.
His wife Nancy passed away on Sept. 27, 2000.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen Bohaker Wood and her husband, Fredrick W. Wood of Greenville, S.C.; two sons, Dr. Timothy D. Bohaker and his wife, Donna P. Bohaker of Cambridge and Herbert G. Bohaker and his wife, Susan L. Bohaker of Easton; six grandchildren, Attee Wood Bombaro, Dale V. Patterson, Kristen Bohaker Willey, Philip C. Bohaker, Elizabeth G. Bohaker and Christopher W. Bohaker; eight great-grandchildren, Edvin Patterson, Signe Patterson, Ingrid Patterson, Alfons Patterson, Jack Willey, Noelle Bombaro, Israel Bombaro and Hanniel Bombaro. He is also survived by a special friend, Betty Collins of Easton.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Sheffield Wood; a great-grandchild, Anastasia Bombaro, and a brother, Donald A. Bohaker.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Oxford, with The Right Rev. James J. Shand and The Rev. Rod Brown officiating. A private burial will be held prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Church, P.O. Box 387, Oxford, MD 21654; All Faith Chapel, 26281 Tunis Mills Road, Easton, MD 21601, or a church of your choice.
Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
