Recreation & Parks’ Dir. Frank Stout resigns

CAMBRIDGE — The Banner learned Monday morning that Director of the Department of Recreation & Parks Frank Stout will leave his post.
“Mr. Stout resigned,” Acting County Manager Donna Lane confirmed. “It is on the regular session agenda as a formality, to accept the resignation and post the position.”

The agenda was for the County Council’s meeting set for 6 p.m. on Feb. 2.
Mr. Stout was the last remaining director of a county department to be appointed by the previous council. The local government will seek his replacement. A search is also underway for a replacement for former county manager Keith Adkins, who recently stepped down.

A job is also open at Emergency Medical Services, where a chief started in early January and left a week later.
Mr. Stout came to the job after a career in education as a teacher and administrator. At Recreation & Parks, he was involved with the acquisition of the former Bay Country Racquet Club.

Plans are being made for the public’s use of the building on Leonards Lane in Cambridge. The facility represents a significant upgrade in the department’s function.
The Department of Recreation & Parks has a small staff — the website lists five, including Mr. Stout.

“Established in 1963, the Dorchester County Recreation and Parks Department develops and coordinates a range of athletic and recreational programs for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike,” the website says.

Our Recreation and Parks Department provides safe, attractive public facilities, parks, and open spaces featuring a variety of amenities. We partner with state agencies, private organizations and local municipalities to enhance the recreational facilities and resources we have, while constantly seeking to expand our network of parks and programmatic offerings.
