CAMBRIDGE — The Bay Country Racquet Club owned by Eastern Shore Sports Academy, LLC at 515 Leonards Lane, Cambridge, is expanding its indoor sports play.” Last year we added a batting cage ” says George Obermeier, owner of the club.

It quickly became very popular and the club currently has only a few more times open for the batting cage. A pitching machine will be available by November. “We also expanded to allow indoor practice for Derek Coleman’s track team” added Mr. Obermeier.

There will be a FREE pickleball clinic scheduled for Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. that will be taught by Mr. Obermeier who is a USAPA certified pickleball pro. The club will also be offering a low-cost or free tennis clinic this fall for beginners and youth.

The Bay Country Racquet Club opened its doors in 1976 as Dorchester County’s only indoor tennis facility. “We are trying to venture into other sports” says Terry Robbins, co-owner of the club, adding “we will never be as large as Crown Sports, but we hope to be able to offer some of the other sports practices without having to drive to Eden.”

Last winter, the new Vikings Youth track and field team, for middle school students, practiced at the facility. Then in the spring, Cambridge-South Dorchester High School softball players also got some workouts at the site.

Future expansion could involve toddler soccer, martial arts, table tennis and corn hole. All-new LED lighting was installed this summer replacing the old fluorescent lighting.

If you are interested in being an instructor or bringing your sports group to the club, you can contact George Obermeier at 732-539-9727. To sign up or inquire about the pickleball or tennis clinics call the club at 410-228-9311. Bay Country Racquet Club is committed to the community.
