CAMBRIDGE — The vegetables sold in front of her store were grown on the property right there at the store. She constructed the wagon in the painting out of a baby carriage, and cooked on a wood stove her entire life. Miss Vera lived to be 98 years old.

George Wright originally painted Miss Vera in the 1970s, sitting in front of her store watching the world go by. Now, a print of that iconic painting will be raffled off at the Dri-Dock in Cambridge during their Recovery Works event on Sept. 26. Tickets are $5.

The Recovery Works event will be celebrated at the Dri-Dock at 206 Sunburst Highway in Cambridge, Sept. 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dri-Dock invites everyone to come out and help reduce the stigma of addiction, and help celebrate the positive effects of recovery. They’ll have a moon bounce for the kids, food, beverages and desserts.

This event is a part of National Recovery Month. Every September, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration sponsors Recovery Month to increase awareness and understanding of mental and substance use issues and celebrate the people who recover. SAMHSA is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. SAMHSA’s mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on America’s communities.
