Contestants in the annual Mayor’s race: Vienna mayor Russ Brimsfield, Salisbury mayor Jim Ireton, Sharpton mayor Doug Gosnell (crowned King), East New Market mayor Caroline Cline (Queen), Church Creek mayor Robert Herbert, Federalsburg mayor Bill Beall.[/caption] The annual Great Eastern Shore Tomato Festival in Vienna was fun for everyone! New this year was a visit by the original Punkin' Chunkin' folks from Delaware, who brought a couple air cannons and entertained the festivalgoers by launching watermelons over the Nanticoke--occasionally 3000 to 4000 feet or more!
The event is a fundraiser for the Dorchester County Historical Society who were pleased with the turnout this year. And on a beautifully sunny late-summer day, everyone was pleased with the weather!
