CAMBRIDGE — Is there a better way to start a long weekend than a pep rally? If so, then the Maple Elementary School Lions want to know what it is. The students kicked off their Labor Day weekend with the first pep rally of the school year Sept. 2, filled with exciting and fun activities. The pep rally, organized by Maple’s technology specialist Bobbi Callis, started with a roll call of the classes. Each age group of students and their teachers performed a cheer, celebrating their grade and the new school year. Then Maple’s Adrian Newton laid down a rap about how our Lions ROAR – are respectful, organized, attentive, and responsible – to success. Dr. Colman announced the first Maple Madness Game and its host, media specialist Talibah Chikwendu. Each of the school’s grade levels was represented by a 5th grade student in the competition and the teachers were represented by the Maple Lion. Using iPads, the students responded to questions about Maple Elementary School in a Kahoot (an online quiz game app), while the Maple Lion did everything else. The Kindergarten representative did the best job of answering the questions making that class the winner, but our Maple Lion stole the show. Guidance Counselor Donnell Pinder and music teacher Ray Washington closed the pep rally and started dismissal with a drum mini-concert that got everyone on their feet and moving. It was an amazing display of talent and skill and a wonderful end to a great event!
