RHODESDALE - Pearlie Lee Jackson, 82, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007 at Deer"s Head Coastal Hospice in Salisbury.

She was born Dec. 26, 1924 to the late Daniel Hayes Sr. and Anna Drew Hayes. She was raised in Painter, Va. and received her education in the public schools of Accomack County. At an early age, she became a member of the New Mount Zion Baptist Church in Painter.

She moved to Reid"s Grove in her early 20s. She became known as "Aunt Pearl" to most of those in the community. She was the wife of James Awdry Jackson.

She joined the Zoar United Methodist Church and was an active members until her illness prevented her from doing so. She was a communion steward, an usher, choir member and participated in various committees within the church including the chairperson of the kitchen committee for a number of years.

Mrs. Jackson worked at the Harper and Bateman Pickle Co. in Hurlock for about 23 years and retired from the Bloch and Guggenheimer plant in 1987.

After retirement she attended the Senior Center in Hurlock, took trips and volunteered to read to students at Hurlock Elementary. She received the President"s Volunteer Service Award for her volunteer activities.

Cooking was one of Mrs. Jackson"s favorite pastimes.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Garry Jackson (Vanessa) or Reid"s Grove; a stepson, Eric Jackson (Patricia Ann) of Baltimore; a granddaughter, whom she helped raise, Yolanda Sampson of Reid"s Grove; seven stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Pitts of Painter, Va.; three sisters-in-law, Geraldine Dennis and Vatice Lewis (Burnice) of Reid"s Grove, Bessie Mae Jones of Salisbury; two brothers-in-law, Winfield Jackson (Rachel) of Reid"s Grove and Keithford Jackson of Vienna; a special friend, Juanita Murray of Hurlock and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by three children; one stepdaughter, Doris Camper; one stepgrandson, Roy Norwood Davis III; three sisers and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Zoar United Methodist Church, Rhodesdale. Burial will be at Reid"s Grove Cemetery in Rhodesdale.

Family and friends may call tonight from 6 to 8 at the church and from noon to 1 p.m. the day of the funeral.

The Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Easton is handling the arrangements.
