...THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR SOUTHWESTERN DELAWARE COUNTY

IS CANCELLED...

The storms which prompted the warning have moved out of the warned

area. Therefore, the warning has been cancelled.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until midnight EDT for

northern Delaware...southern New Jersey...and southeastern

Pennsylvania.

...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 915 PM EDT

FOR NEW CASTLE...NORTHWESTERN CUMBERLAND...SALEM...WEST CENTRAL

GLOUCESTER AND SOUTHWESTERN CHESTER COUNTIES...

At 852 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line

extending from near Woodstown to near Hancocks Bridge to near

Glasgow, moving southeast at 30 mph. These storms have a history of

producing widespread damaging winds across Chester and northern New

Castle Counties.

THESE ARE DESTRUCTIVE STORMS FOR southern Salem and western

Cumberland Counties in New Jersey, and New Castle and northern Kent

Counties in Delaware!

HAZARD...80 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Emergency management.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without

shelter. Mobile homes will be heavily damaged. Expect

considerable damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles.

Extensive tree damage and power outages are likely.

Locations impacted include...

Wilmington, Newark, Middletown, Pennsville, Carneys Point, Elsmere,

New Castle, Penns Grove, Salem, Oxford, Woodstown, Alloway, Quinton,

Swedesboro, Delaware City, Elmer, Newport, Shiloh, Stanton, and North

Star.

This includes the following highways...

New Jersey Turnpike near exit 1.

Interstate 95 in Pennsylvania near mile marker 0.

Interstate 95 in Delaware between mile markers 1 and 23.

Interstate 295 in New Jersey between mile markers 0 and 10.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

This is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION with tornado-like wind

speeds expected. Mobile homes and high profile vehicles are

especially susceptible to winds of this magnitude and may be

overturned. For your protection move to an interior room on the

lowest floor of a building. These storms have the potential to cause

serious injury and significant property damage.

Intense thunderstorm lines can produce brief tornadoes and widespread

significant wind damage. Although a tornado is not immediately

likely, it is best to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of

a building. These storms may cause serious injury and significant

property damage.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.

Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading

killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to

be struck by lightning.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to

flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

...FLASH FLOOD WARNING WILL EXPIRE AT 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR

SOUTHEASTERN LYCOMING COUNTY...

The heavy rain has ended. Flooding is no longer expected to pose a

threat. Please continue to heed remaining road closures.
