Oyster season begins October 1. Do you know which shellfish gear you can use in what waters?
Use the Maryland Shellfish Waters and Gears Map to find areas that are open and to identify which gear can be used. This interactive map also shows Maryland Department of Environment water classifications, including marina closures and aquaculture lease sites.
View the web version of the map (best for desktop viewing) and follow the instructions below to see how you utilize it.
There is also a mobile-friendly version, which can be accessed via the MD Outdoors app via the "Water Access" button, then by clicking "Shellfish and Gears Map." This is the version that works best if you are trying to use your location in real time relative to the areas on the map.
