CAMBRIDGE — On Feb. 3, officers and staff of the Cambridge Police Department (CPD) said goodbye to their partner, K-9 Dani. The 5-year-old German shepherd was suffering from an internal ailment and had to be put to sleep.
Dani’s handler and partner was Pfc. Mark Shayne.
Tributes and sympathies were sent to Pfc. Shayne and other officers from area law-enforcement agencies and citizens. “The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office offers our condolences to the handler, and Cambridge Police Department for the loss of K-9 Dani,” a statement from the office said.
“The Maryland State police Easton Barrack would like to offer their condolences to the Cambridge Police Department in reference to the loss of their K-9 partner, Dani,” a message from the Barrack said. “The Maryland State police sends its thoughts to the Cambridge Police Department and K-9 Dani’s handler during this difficult time. Thank you K-9 Dani for your service and may you rest in peace. It was an honor for us to work with you.”
Leaders and colleagues at the CPD wrote, “Thank you, Mark and K-9 Dani for your dedication to the department and the community. Together, you both made an awesome team. We salute you both.”
