SHILOH — It was great training, raised money, families turned out, there was music and food — a pretty successful night for North Dorchester High School’s cross country team. Eagles runners, coaches, alumni and parents formed four teams and ran 50-mile relays on Friday evening, from 4 p.m. to midnight. The Red Team finished first, in 7 hours and 1 minute, but it wasn’t really about winning. The event brought the North Dorchester community together on a cool night for some fun and to support their young athletes, who pledged to raise $100 each for their team. “It was amazing,” Head Coach Mark Lowrie said. “They kept getting faster as it cooled off.” With the Tilghman family providing music and handling the food, and with games taking place throughout the event, it wasn’t all work as runners took their turns logging miles around the track. It was also a social event of fitness-minded folks, who were there to cheer on their teens as their first meet approaches this week. “We had so many parents,” Coach Lowrie said. “Thank you for everyone’s hard work for making this year’s relay a good time for all.” The athletes will continue raising money through this week. North Dorchester’s first regular-season meet will be Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at North Caroline High School.
